A new report, funded by
the Economic & Social Research Council and drawing on the work
of over 100 top researchers across the UK finds that current
Government skills & innovations policies will not prepare the
British workforce to hold its own in the future globalising
world.
The report finds that efforts to improve
skills levels are actually hindered by the "bewildering range
of public bodies seeking to offer training opportunities".
The ESRC urges that new forms of
intervention are needed if the UK is to stand any chance of
becoming a high skills, knowledge-based economy that can continue
to compete in the global economy.
