In terms of environmental hazards, flooding is one of
the most serious that we face globally.
Every year millions of people are displaced and hundreds of
thousands are killed, injured or catch diseases related to flooding
or flooding incidents. In the UK, there are few fatalities but
property damage runs at up to a billion pounds a year.
Is extreme flooding the direct result of climate change? Or does
the way we manage our rivers and other water resources also
contribute to the problem?
Scientists at the UK's University of Nottingham are among the
international experts contributing to major research on flooding
and river management aimed at providing future solutions for all
communities at risk from one of the most destructive forces in
nature.
